Evie
The Wrights came together to pay tribute to The Easybeats front man Stevie
Wright. After reading the biography ‘Hard Road’ about Wright’s turbulent life,
Nic Cester approached author/producer Glenn Goldsmith about re-recording
Wright’s classic trilogy ‘Evie’ Parts 1, 2 & 3. So who are The Wrights? The
Wrights feature - Nic Cester (Jet) - Kram (Spiderbait) - Chris Cheney (The
Living End) - Davey Lane (You Am I / The Pictures) & Pat Bourke (Dallas Crane).
Their version of 'Evie' will finally be available as a single at the end of this
month - 27 February to be exact.
Harry Vanda & Geroge Young were the original producers of 'Evie' and proved to
be the most successful songwriting and production team in Australia. They
defined Oz rock in the 1970s. They developed and produced AC/DC, Rose Tattoo and
The Angels from their King Street studio in Sydney. They wrote and produced
several top 10 hits for various solo artists. In the 1980s they became the first
inductees into the ‘ARIA Hall OF Fame’ and in 2001 The Easybeats' 'Friday On My
Mind' was voted the best Australian song of all time.
An added treat, the bonus track on the single is called 'Fool For You' and is
the last track Stevie Wright wrote and recorded at Albert Studios with his band
in 1986. This track was never released.
The profits of the single will be donated to Stevie Wright and The Salvation
Army for their continued work with drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Due to the
tragic events relating to the Tsunami on Boxing Day 2004, also included in this
benefit recording is The Red Cross.
